Every year, Slipper Club partners with a non-profit doing amazing work around Texas. Our 2020–2021
beneficiary is Brighter tomorrows.
This year, Slipper Club has selected Brighter Tomorrows as its beneficiary. Brighter Tomorrow's is an organization whose mission is to empower victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. For 30 years Brighter Tomorrows has provided emergency safe shelter, transitional housing, support services and partnerships with stakeholders to raise awareness of domestic violence in the Dallas community.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a large increase in domestic violence, primarily due to the stay-at-home orders. Within the first three weeks of Dallas' order, domestic violence rose 12.5%. For victims of these crimes, there are places like Brighter Tomorrows. With services offered in both English and Spanish, Brighter Tomorrows has provided emergency safe shelter to over 425 people in the past year. Out of these 425, 217 of them were children. Along with the emergency safe shelter, 7,074 emergency hotline calls were answered, 411 calls regarding sexual assault were answered and 180 abusers received prevention education.
Another feature of Brighter Tomorrows are the thrift stores, located in Grand Prairie and DeSoto. These stores raise operating money for agency services and provide household goods and necessities for those entering the emergency safe shelter and Transitional Housing Program. These clients in these programs receive vouchers and shop at the thrift stores at no charge for clothing and other needs.
We will have many donation and volunteer opportunities to give back to this amazing organization and we could not be more excited and driven to help this cause.
